Usually an envelope ends up being about 10mm larger than the card, giving 5mm of ease on each side. If a card has many layers and lots of dimension, it may need even more ease, and this can be another reason to make a custom envelope. </p><p>Stampin' Up produce a range of high quality envelopes that are lovely to stamp on. The two colours are Very Vanilla and Basic White. Currently the sizes available are C6 (fits a standard card which is half an A4, folded), 3x3 envelopes (76 x 76mm), and the envelopes that come with matching notecards. These are 13 x 9.2 cm, to fit a 12.7 x 8.9cm card. You can see the notecard envelopes don't have a lot of ease, which is why notecards are best suited for simpler cards.</p><p><b>Custom Sizes Envelopes</b></p><p>But what if you make a card that doesn't fit those standard sizes? I love to make square cards, and recently have been making some larger A7 size cards (5 x 7 inches). Slimline cards have been very popular recently. Business envelopes might be the right size for slimline cards, but they don't look very glamorous! This where making a custom envelope works really well.</p><p>There are several methods for making custom envelopes</p><p><b>Template</b></p><p>Use the actual card or a template to form the card. This works particularly well for cards with lots of dimension, and also for mini envelopes that are just for show, such as on this Valentine's card. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqWcayilSWrr9e5pHAz1cRlL_EhO0Mi71cNQUFqdNiNn79u2TNo-umEqBcZ25Er24eWCAqfIDZV8EomaOZnLaaI_pTJCA8Ee2UsH8Ev2SODdiZ-j_JFp4rLj-T90TAZhJJNxNuBXGQ4mI/s1330/sending+love+2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1330" data-original-width="997" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqWcayilSWrr9e5pHAz1cRlL_EhO0Mi71cNQUFqdNiNn79u2TNo-umEqBcZ25Er24eWCAqfIDZV8EomaOZnLaaI_pTJCA8Ee2UsH8Ev2SODdiZ-j_JFp4rLj-T90TAZhJJNxNuBXGQ4mI/s320/sending+love+2.jpg" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><b>Simple wrap envelope</b></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA0O1jJvcpBNjoRiY8qyrObL5gSrQTSS2avjVlzbKs1AxRIZvFstWFXx_eQYTQ5tLfl0vl34LRqwp1dPMjXuc3jpRE9RFy-RWRgPV6Mdmp8Y_qUnDUpjvJBtnJ9BQS9NkXJ9XzoBBXh98/s2048/envelope+slimline.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1152" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA0O1jJvcpBNjoRiY8qyrObL5gSrQTSS2avjVlzbKs1AxRIZvFstWFXx_eQYTQ5tLfl0vl34LRqwp1dPMjXuc3jpRE9RFy-RWRgPV6Mdmp8Y_qUnDUpjvJBtnJ9BQS9NkXJ9XzoBBXh98/s320/envelope+slimline.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><b><br /></b><p></p><p>This is a simple way to make an envelope! and it works really well for a slimline card. You can use your trimmer or a scoreboard to make a fitted envelope. I like to add a pull hole by using a circle punch: this makes it easier to get your card out of the envelope. I will create a tutorial with directions in an upcoming post.</p><p><b>Punchboard</b></p><p>Stampin' Up used to sell an envelope punchboard, and its something I am definitely holding onto. There are a ton of videos out there showing you how to use it, and as well as envelopes you can make boxes, bows, tabbed folders and much more.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi89lors9sJggwe0F0e2PUbn66rVBVrVBoSXF8y33kZPaEJprQX-2DpiIySrk-AawSNxxzxjVEiplyJ9c9naOinTT4sKXX5NUl0U6vgpon5HavYssyW7yjcaZW3NuulQPF5-TBD6nXSb3A/s1331/envelopes+mini.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1331" data-original-width="1330" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi89lors9sJggwe0F0e2PUbn66rVBVrVBoSXF8y33kZPaEJprQX-2DpiIySrk-AawSNxxzxjVEiplyJ9c9naOinTT4sKXX5NUl0U6vgpon5HavYssyW7yjcaZW3NuulQPF5-TBD6nXSb3A/s320/envelopes+mini.jpg" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><b>Decorating your envelope</b>.</p><p>I like to use patterned papers (dsp) for envelopes as its a nice weight and you get extra interest with the double-sided paper.</p><p></p><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvToERs2_-QcgEe-FE_afRyk6B8km1OQZzF6pjqW1_fOaUu9KEQViHUEk0-T9Jcr7fCQbIaDnji7YSMbKmLkrM5zhed-C358ax-9TprnQ9T2Nt9ymfVXJ-RkYyrn3hy6rJnIJEz2s84K8/s1775/blooms+envelope.jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1331" data-original-width="1775" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvToERs2_-QcgEe-FE_afRyk6B8km1OQZzF6pjqW1_fOaUu9KEQViHUEk0-T9Jcr7fCQbIaDnji7YSMbKmLkrM5zhed-C358ax-9TprnQ9T2Nt9ymfVXJ-RkYyrn3hy6rJnIJEz2s84K8/s320/blooms+envelope.jpg" width="320" /></a></p>I also use photocopy paper, and I keep A3 size paper particularly for making larger envelopes. For square cards, about 5 x 5 inches or 13 cm square is the maximum card size you can go to and still use A4 paper. If you are going to make a lot of custom envelopes you may want to buy a higher quality paper of around 110 gsm. But as a higher quality A4 paper usually works out a around 35c a sheet, you will find the Stampin' Up! ones better value for standard sized cards. <p></p><p>You can decorate plain envelopes with dsp liners or flaps, and flaps can also be dry embossed. Or when you make the card, stamp the envelope at the same time with the same stamp and inks. its quick and everything co-ordinates.</p><p><b>Posting your envelope</b></p><p>Remember the purpose of a card is to go out into the word and spread love! Well that's my definition. So remember to post them for birthdays, anniversaries, get well wishes, or just because! A belated card is still way better than no card at all. Check out the <a href="https://www.nzpost.co.nz/personal/sending/sending-within-nz/letters" target="_blank">NZ Post regulation sizes</a> to make sure you have the correct postage for the size envelope. Generally any square envelope over 130mm will be considered "large" and need extra postage. You may need to add an address panel with a light cardstock if you are using patterned paper. A nice touch is to use a diecut shape for the address panel.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmHISUVFoAlxxGHpc4A2JHm8ZS8_qvijwO95kqgc6GcUQNUWTgUjTatWATiLsrunELUJJDlB5HAZAKbMbKdlmJewFS1AZQFhr6oA1iLlBKHOJdPIyr-iYv44RsY13toIS_T4T1Yj6uY0w/s2048/envelope+diecut.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1152" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmHISUVFoAlxxGHpc4A2JHm8ZS8_qvijwO95kqgc6GcUQNUWTgUjTatWATiLsrunELUJJDlB5HAZAKbMbKdlmJewFS1AZQFhr6oA1iLlBKHOJdPIyr-iYv44RsY13toIS_T4T1Yj6uY0w/s320/envelope+diecut.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><p><b>Sealing your envelope</b></p><p>While it is possible to purchase special envelope adhesive, I usually just use a touch of multipurpose glue to seal them shut. Other options are to use washi tape, or an adhesive seal. You could even make your own stickers using sticker adhesive sheets! But for now, lets keep it simple, and get those beautiful unique-sized cards out into the world! </p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Queen of Scrapshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03097131215416045541noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4504204661837754448.post-18208339155405739912021-02-12T09:00:00.001+13:002021-02-12T10:59:09.132+13:00 Frugal Friday: Bonus Cards and Tags<p></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-no-proof: yes;"></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWQGfPYMnc83jkQRWEa7k-7D5Nm1Zy0G8DpeG2sV9U0pV1Jg0_7saEEbf-JdYlx0cJJCBSSP8mEeAlrr4CsbkB2FGYupjn9eUhl7Q5F2XPNlXGt-JdTCuYt9Jl6rNO6T-vqBjIRr_JRxw/s1330/darling+birthday+tag.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1330" data-original-width="997" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWQGfPYMnc83jkQRWEa7k-7D5Nm1Zy0G8DpeG2sV9U0pV1Jg0_7saEEbf-JdYlx0cJJCBSSP8mEeAlrr4CsbkB2FGYupjn9eUhl7Q5F2XPNlXGt-JdTCuYt9Jl6rNO6T-vqBjIRr_JRxw/s320/darling+birthday+tag.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMdfn3snxMHu509Fb4qR_VHPPVD-CDTl2o5hV27rgqIj39GYYJWgGDYGYfXJ4r3qQ90eb3iuQn0DIAVkToqW-Truj72j4G1cIF_iwXUFouQKoC60WFJi3RnCf7Z-JYlxbWGWWeM0rGsS8/s1774/gold+best+wishes.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1330" data-original-width="1774" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMdfn3snxMHu509Fb4qR_VHPPVD-CDTl2o5hV27rgqIj39GYYJWgGDYGYfXJ4r3qQ90eb3iuQn0DIAVkToqW-Truj72j4G1cIF_iwXUFouQKoC60WFJi3RnCf7Z-JYlxbWGWWeM0rGsS8/s320/gold+best+wishes.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>I taught a beginners

And in a class, sometimes the teaching can get in the way of the chatting, right? This is is where kits are brilliant: everything is supplied, co-ordinated and precut, and there are instructions you can follow or just use as a spring board to your own ideas.</p><p>I am running a couple of kit based workshops in the next month. The first one is scheduled for 11 February and is using all inclusive kits. You won't need to bring anything! Refreshments provided. Just be sure to book by 28 January to ensure your kit is here in time for class</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbt9sti36KsOnolYLH6ryIJTvlMeXy4J9TBN2c7zg0ZLhnvBh0nuiEbJ7Pd1k-GsPPC0aNKMD5KOSrFZvOxu9lheA-A93vGllptWCr06kRyuzozHgTmFQ6sSoJXLOJahULEMrho4Q8HFI/s2048/kit+collage.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="2044" height="576" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbt9sti36KsOnolYLH6ryIJTvlMeXy4J9TBN2c7zg0ZLhnvBh0nuiEbJ7Pd1k-GsPPC0aNKMD5KOSrFZvOxu9lheA-A93vGllptWCr06kRyuzozHgTmFQ6sSoJXLOJahULEMrho4Q8HFI/w575-h576/kit+collage.png" width="575" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%;">All-inclusive

justify buying new stuff !) I have put together this simple tutorial for using 12x
12 paper.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Many tutorials for using patterned paper are all about
maximising the number of cards made from one piece… but that wasn’t what I was
after. Now don’t get me wrong, I love to use up my scraps (refer to the name of
my site) But this paper situation is out of control. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">So here I am using the patterned paper in large pieces for
card fronts. #loveitchopit #useitup<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">And they look great! Patterned paper looks much better on
finished cards than filed away in my craft room!<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">From one piece of 12 x 12 paper I made two 5 x 7 inch cards,
2 standard greeting cards (metric) 2 notecards and a 3 ½ inch square card. From
the leftovers I made 5 gift tags. I have given measurements in inches, even tho
I am really a metric girl, because the numbers just work out better for these
card sizes.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">For half of the cards I used just the paper mounted straight
on the card base, the others I used a cardstock mat. I think both versions look
good. For the purpose of this exercise I just used one of the patterns, but of
course all SU paper is double-sided, so there are even more options there.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The 5 x7 inch cards are an impressive size, but you can only
get one out of an A4 sheet of card. So to make these seven cards I needed to add 3

It hasn't completely stopped me buying new stuff... and I am eying up some new additions in the Stampin' Up Paper sale starting this Thursday!</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjD74TygcmwdxZg4XYwvf3tbfYqYYsFGk2V3Mv0kefZL3K8mjDlVLDxu_Gl0Q1aWF5mq4iwSVHIIwCSdtyKFI_hl76mxUEPG2-6aSnPZoTOy10ojdC0a9O-OHX6PSMlRjjrvebP0dHIPv4/s600/01-10-20_GIF_DSP_SALE_NA.gif" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjD74TygcmwdxZg4XYwvf3tbfYqYYsFGk2V3Mv0kefZL3K8mjDlVLDxu_Gl0Q1aWF5mq4iwSVHIIwCSdtyKFI_hl76mxUEPG2-6aSnPZoTOy10ojdC0a9O-OHX6PSMlRjjrvebP0dHIPv4/s320/01-10-20_GIF_DSP_SALE_NA.gif" /></a></div><br />But I have a major focus on using up some of my old papers: in fact I have a whole children's class for these holidays prepped using papers from 10 years ago!<p></p><p>Lots of tutorials out there have a goal of maximising the number of cards you can make from one sheet of paper, but that isn't so helpful for actually getting rid of stuff! But it is still beautiful paper, and I don't want to waste it. I have come up with this combo of gift pouch and notecards to showcase the papers while making simple but beautiful cards.</p><p>The pouch idea was inspired by Kelly Acheson and I first used it to make a <a href="https://queen-of-scraps.blogspot.com/2020/09/petite-thank-you-notecards.html" target="_blank">gift set for a friend</a>. I then used it for a <a href="https://queen-of-scraps.blogspot.com/2020/09/tropical-escape-childrens-papercraft.html" target="_blank">tropical-themed children's class</a>. Then today I had the inspiration to start Christmas cards (not sure why: its a beautiful spring day here in Cambridge, New Zealand!)</p><p><br /></p><p>I used my retired Jolly Holiday DSP from 2010 (!). Luckily all the colours are still current: Cherry Cobbler, Pear Pizzazz, Old Olive and Very Vanilla, so it was easy to match in the co-ordinating inks and cardstock. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr8EgJIME32lCx8fJK33QIhr9-Tac1XbvGXokjf0mN17_Gibo4oA8arhfddTDgu5-NCMXpf-Po1-2PsQHTFVlm09wtMkVVPReL66YjmxwFbBfxHjFlfg0h56MTIiSIaw8bD33AjmJ-Oxg/s2048/Christmas+notes+1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1152" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr8EgJIME32lCx8fJK33QIhr9-Tac1XbvGXokjf0mN17_Gibo4oA8arhfddTDgu5-NCMXpf-Po1-2PsQHTFVlm09wtMkVVPReL66YjmxwFbBfxHjFlfg0h56MTIiSIaw8bD33AjmJ-Oxg/s320/Christmas+notes+1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p>First I cut a sheet of patterned 12 x 12 inch paper into 1 strip 7 1/2 inches by 12 inches. The remaining piece I cut at 3 inch intervals across the length, giving me four 3 x 4 1/2 inch pieces, just the right size for a notecard.</p><p>I made two very simple cards first: the patterned paper went straight onto the Very Vanilla Notecards</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUHhGjbTx9t7VgKNfEdvX4TnO198ppI3zostePzvyhMLXtIc6tx2B-lqqqHsyUYZ-nmQqz-9kQgzcmEVIwUpDtI-eRfFwiBDI06ORCCpzH1189FkLNS8epOPqBvOWeqqUFtps88kWRpcU/s2048/Christmas+notes+basic+1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1152" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUHhGjbTx9t7VgKNfEdvX4TnO198ppI3zostePzvyhMLXtIc6tx2B-lqqqHsyUYZ-nmQqz-9kQgzcmEVIwUpDtI-eRfFwiBDI06ORCCpzH1189FkLNS8epOPqBvOWeqqUFtps88kWRpcU/s320/Christmas+notes+basic+1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br /></div>Then I added a stamped sentiment. We can't travel to the islands right now, but we can enjoy a bit of island time! You will make a cute gift pouch and a set of co-ordinating notecards and envelopes. After a break for snacks, make a floral wreath or lei.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmN1Mb-dmX-MeOVQQ7o6NgblR2LNXzLrCn3SyM156LvPf5fHs0UnJfPSNn36CxXx27MSK10lo1IYaK0UhyDjw0ZNKaBH0q_d35spJnZAnLFKBEZNoDAyD9QEiHeomRds43wx3iGi0sOEc/s2048/floral+crown.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1152" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmN1Mb-dmX-MeOVQQ7o6NgblR2LNXzLrCn3SyM156LvPf5fHs0UnJfPSNn36CxXx27MSK10lo1IYaK0UhyDjw0ZNKaBH0q_d35spJnZAnLFKBEZNoDAyD9QEiHeomRds43wx3iGi0sOEc/s320/floral+crown.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p>All materials provided. $35 Monday 5 October 9 am to 12 midday. </p><p><br /></p><p>In the second session, the class is based around the Box of Sunshine concept. You will personalise a set of cards and a co-ordinating gift box, all with a positive message. The idea is to fill the gift box with yellow-themed treats and gift it to a friend or family member who need a boost. Treats will be provided and there will be a mini treat box for the student to keep. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJ2nkF-IEUVfOD824KSDZIGu4aAWojhYmNPYXljNVs-f61C4oQa02BYKQaXCowZyhj5nBQ1gHzhuEI2k5gNc2RuvK_QN2XoLtdpu2aeO1_etacHaewYyoNcTU7tCHqy1YtLvE3E6VL32I/s2048/box+of+sunshine.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1152" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJ2nkF-IEUVfOD824KSDZIGu4aAWojhYmNPYXljNVs-f61C4oQa02BYKQaXCowZyhj5nBQ1gHzhuEI2k5gNc2RuvK_QN2XoLtdpu2aeO1_etacHaewYyoNcTU7tCHqy1YtLvE3E6VL32I/s320/box+of+sunshine.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p>All materials, snacks and treats provided. $60, includes a quality stamp set and ink pad to keep for future projects Thursday 8 October 9 am to 12 midday. </p><p>The classes are suitable for beginners or more experienced crafters over the age of 10.</p><p>Book now by email or phone me on 0211012192. I recently visited her husband and daughter who have returned to New Zealand. I was touched when Derek gave me a set of stamps that had been Maree's. They are a legacy of Scrapbook Studio days.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfkYytJBKRU80llnjR7kvjBFy9TStxjhmKF-CkQzxkGPZVsiu5AXsEXMCJ7mp8p4flQsR53TSITADoBxAKG9Lmo9v1y08MIdrV1w1iyx2fAV8-Jga0iqL00iUc3WZkEbdIiG7m0EMw-BM/s1796/hero+stamps.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1347" data-original-width="1796" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfkYytJBKRU80llnjR7kvjBFy9TStxjhmKF-CkQzxkGPZVsiu5AXsEXMCJ7mp8p4flQsR53TSITADoBxAKG9Lmo9v1y08MIdrV1w1iyx2fAV8-Jga0iqL00iUc3WZkEbdIiG7m0EMw-BM/s320/hero+stamps.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><p><br /></p><p>Today I got out retired papers, and Stampin' Write Markers and made a little gift for Brighid, their daughter. I had some small non SU envelopes that were perfect for this project. They are only 81mm x 118mm or 3 3/16 x 4 5/8 inches. </p><p>To make the petite note cards, I used a sheet of 12 x12 inch cardstock. I cut it into 9 x 3 inches pieces and scored at 4 1/2 inch. You can get 5 little 3 x 4 1/2 inch cards out of one sheet. </p><p>Then I made a notecard pouch to hold them, <a href="https://astampabove.typepad.com/my-blog/2017/08/feature-friday-video-card-pouch.html" target="_blank">inspired by one made by Kelly Acheson </a>. I used patterned paper for the base, and cardstock with a patterned paper panel for the flap. Kelly used a magnetic closure: I just popped the bottom half of the front stamped piece up on dimensionals. The flap just tucks underneath it.</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs5pZwfJ1oOThIYF_VUL4beVoy80Ejffn-1EJ9RbYT5Hq4zpMvOV26mpQr9NkhXkRnrQJXSpZWsuftzR12i3A6BmYrJCDdVbfDtV3pYKeArNMPMlNc6Pz7F1WArDEhWt5e3zkrxTx7cF8/s1445/Hero+notes.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1445" data-original-width="1084" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs5pZwfJ1oOThIYF_VUL4beVoy80Ejffn-1EJ9RbYT5Hq4zpMvOV26mpQr9NkhXkRnrQJXSpZWsuftzR12i3A6BmYrJCDdVbfDtV3pYKeArNMPMlNc6Pz7F1WArDEhWt5e3zkrxTx7cF8/s320/Hero+notes.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfqvtxmm1VA-IDdUlDg5tHcDi6R9BG2QVHzxyUrn8K2nWBYlsUHinl9-lWLmoNJLsOj8trhTrzJ1DZcmEMsSrFG8_FMbqqZgWTioxA4YmxQUQxEBJdwu1kRut76cDn4cHhXiKijycPpjs/s1796/notecards.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1347" data-original-width="1796" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfqvtxmm1VA-IDdUlDg5tHcDi6R9BG2QVHzxyUrn8K2nWBYlsUHinl9-lWLmoNJLsOj8trhTrzJ1DZcmEMsSrFG8_FMbqqZgWTioxA4YmxQUQxEBJdwu1kRut76cDn4cHhXiKijycPpjs/s320/notecards.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p>This size pouch will also hold the standard Stampin' Up! notecards and I am planning a school holiday class for October based on this idea. I wanted to use the same concept to use some of my 6 x 6 paper pads. This is my prototype. I used 6 sheets of 6 x 6 paper from the retired Going Places paper pad from Stampin' Up! I added to this the matching cardstock (Very Vanilla, Basic Black, Sahara Sand, Mossy Meadow, and the retired colours Delightful Dijon and Lost Lagoon) I also hauled out all my ribbons and inks that matched, some favourite stamps and punches, and started assembling.<br />

Just waiting for blinds to be installed at the end of this week.<br />
I will post photos of my setup next week.<br />
<br />
I am very happy with this prototype for a class. It would make a lovely gift, or just make it for yourself to keep on your desk for cards at hand when you need them.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggRBJ8Nj4YJTEnwZ2PXw5RrBhUS1v1Ab-6mneDyiww1yiwHP60D-P-6Cr7t8rMle8tflFiTfNmttMM79jAF0P42mqoNs9450Z60xP0xTs5A6JoqHKWvs3AY0HtXP8OvjZ6CSSrwq8G6nc/s1600/Modern+medley+closed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="842" data-original-width="810" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggRBJ8Nj4YJTEnwZ2PXw5RrBhUS1v1Ab-6mneDyiww1yiwHP60D-P-6Cr7t8rMle8tflFiTfNmttMM79jAF0P42mqoNs9450Z60xP0xTs5A6JoqHKWvs3AY0HtXP8OvjZ6CSSrwq8G6nc/s320/Modern+medley+closed.jpg" width="307" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTIaoLyy26sKegI734S8uGxrD2s1ar7cgAKhgTkdB1xl3J3cqrMlJ2D_s1R4ozmw6lq0Z1nzSN8_Ql5OGu3aZjLouAEEqGgPTe2W7zl8Dw7uEIMlirYIXUg6Wt7CiBathrsgOGxGioVRY/s1600/Modern+medley+side.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="843" data-original-width="474" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTIaoLyy26sKegI734S8uGxrD2s1ar7cgAKhgTkdB1xl3J3cqrMlJ2D_s1R4ozmw6lq0Z1nzSN8_Ql5OGu3aZjLouAEEqGgPTe2W7zl8Dw7uEIMlirYIXUg6Wt7CiBathrsgOGxGioVRY/s320/Modern+medley+side.jpg" width="179" /></a></div>
<br />
I followed the instructions from a Youtube video by Posh Paper Lady <a href="https://youtu.be/Aq7Tiqi3yZ4">https://youtu.be/Aq7Tiqi3yZ4</a><br />
It just needs a few tweaks as the American sizing is a little off for metric cards. This means you can't fit a standard envelope in the box. I got over this problem in the prototype by trimming about a centimetre off the height of the cards (portrait orientation) and making custom envelopes. But my next sample , and the one I will teach in class, will be a little taller to accommodate standard envelopes. I will post directions on the blog once I have the sample made.<br />
<br />
I used a retired Stampin' Up paper Modern Medley. the classic Vanilla and Black colorway made it easy to co-ordinate the box and then quick to use scraps to fill the box with some all occasion cards.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqYW6S5DQkgNp_Rfry4YQOEbg8MM85iS2KLnivoj8Wv19hIUQLPN6597nDOtLFAbdPdcvWL1ipARxfgsGLU7ae2xRWNT7LD4GNyDUqXK2LMu0L3CzzAmfnFmydiuRPNJHZIW2AqlvVpzA/s1600/modern+medley1watermark.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="903" data-original-width="508" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqYW6S5DQkgNp_Rfry4YQOEbg8MM85iS2KLnivoj8Wv19hIUQLPN6597nDOtLFAbdPdcvWL1ipARxfgsGLU7ae2xRWNT7LD4GNyDUqXK2LMu0L3CzzAmfnFmydiuRPNJHZIW2AqlvVpzA/s320/modern+medley1watermark.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1O3lOLbAyPJhUeByS3iiucrvnUHF8mUFlUliMlp26CnWoxYNH1NJC3Rz0wqb1Q7osp_Wdtz9l45DW8ZmNb8OU2b5eKUlyjA9-g0ILmSoFvbiOWTdvk3s-cFekG_3vWjw0gJuyHXfy9oM/s1600/Modern+Medley2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="843" data-original-width="1499" height="179" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1O3lOLbAyPJhUeByS3iiucrvnUHF8mUFlUliMlp26CnWoxYNH1NJC3Rz0wqb1Q7osp_Wdtz9l45DW8ZmNb8OU2b5eKUlyjA9-g0ILmSoFvbiOWTdvk3s-cFekG_3vWjw0gJuyHXfy9oM/s320/Modern+Medley2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I even lined the larger envelopes and added stamping or embossing to the flaps of the smaller envelopes. So simple when everything co-ordinates!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div>
<br />
I might be coming a little late to Kylie Bertucci's viral sensation of #Loveitchopit, but it works perfectly with my current project of using up retired supplies.<br />
<br />
The basic idea is to overcome a very common hesitation to cut into a beautiful pristine sheet of 12x12 paper. Kylie has lots of tips, but the basic gist is to cut up your dsp into standard card front sizes as soon as you get it. You can check out her youtube videos, or even join her Facebook page for more inspiration.<br />
<br />
<br />
I need a few extra tools and tricks to help me use up my retired papers. Like working out what colours are in the papers (often retired years ago) and whether I even have matching cardstock!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipjhYBVkORrKqpTyp9McHGvbLw3FXKMG6HO7Nqdpq4xJpKDVpmxRTqWltnOOU-VMhApbhBnR5MSz0T_06hHM9uNyrKBGiPOTdMGV3U-Sv2KVDkpkmOJ1hXEzvZYj0DG0nE5DZfVDqcZIg/s1600/20190404_094702.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipjhYBVkORrKqpTyp9McHGvbLw3FXKMG6HO7Nqdpq4xJpKDVpmxRTqWltnOOU-VMhApbhBnR5MSz0T_06hHM9uNyrKBGiPOTdMGV3U-Sv2KVDkpkmOJ1hXEzvZYj0DG0nE5DZfVDqcZIg/s320/20190404_094702.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I'll show you a couple of organisation ideas that have helped me, and this will undoubtedly evolve as I continue.<br />
<br />
Just taking one small part of Kylie's idea is going to save me a lot of time and frustration. Often I have cards that have the front completed, but I can't send them because I haven't finished the inside. There is no neat way of writing a greeting on a dark cardstock base. Problem solved: I have pre-cut some Whisper white into standard insert sizes for the inside of my coloured base cards. I am storing them in a blank stamp case with the dimensions so I can easily replenish when they run low (I never remember the measurements no matter how often I do it!)<br />

So far I am just using medium-sized cheap envelopes to store my cardstock scraps, one for each colour. I am adding in new envelopes as I go through my supplies. The brilliant thing with Stampin' Up! is that when I want to make some cards I can just haul out the cardstock scrap envelopes and matching inks and I know everything will co-ordinate.<br />

I've been working on #loveitchopit, and enjoying using up retired product. These are a set of cards I made using Watercolour Wonder DSP from 2014. I bundled them up with some stamps and envelopes as part of a care package for an elderly relative. With the escalation of self-isolation, I hope we will see a rise in happy mail and a re-discovery of the postal service. Keep in touch with you loved ones despite social distancing!Queen of Scrapshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03097131215416045541noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4504204661837754448.post-70509249749734948032020-03-03T13:57:00.000+13:002020-03-21T11:58:18.060+13:00Mail it and move It<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I am making some little thank you cards to include when I post off a parcel. As they are using a kit I had two of, and I am selling the second one, I thought I would post them here for inspiration.<br />

I had the first made when, as luck would have it, I dropped the inkpad on my completed card. Instantly my elation turned to despair. Such is the rollercoaster that is crafting! So I remade the card, and then set about resurrecting the components from the spoiled card. This is the one made of the rescued parts.<br />

As well as completing unfinished papercraft projects, I am also committing to give and post cards regularly. This is my pile for today's post: all handmade cards. Some birthday, some thank you and some thinking of you type cards. Getting them in the post today is inspired by <a href="https://kimberly-crawford.blogspot.com/2017/09/mail-it-monday.html" target="_blank">Kimberley Crawford's </a>#MailitMonday.<br />
<br />
Some cards have just been made, some have been languishing unloved in a box for several years. Some are from past classes and events I have attended or taught.<br />
<br />
Some are very simple, but I am sure they will still give pleasure.<br />

So I found a <a href="http://ssinkspiration.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">pretty card</a> on pinterest by Tobe Buffenbarger and cased it almost exactly.<br />

Then I could change the colorway, inspired by the delicious specialty DSP, Floral Romance (Fresh Fig, Mossy Meadow, Pear Pizzazz, Petal Pink and Whisper White), which I covet, but don't own.<br />

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I am currently and for the foreseeable future back in New Zealand. Not currently in significant paid employment, but hesitating to call myself retired.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Retired is one of those funny words that we use all the time without thinking about its meaning or source. Of course, like so many good things, its from the French. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Retire: M<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222;">id</span></span></span><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"> 16th century (in the sense ‘withdraw to a place of safety or seclusion’): from French </span><i style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">retirer</i><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: x-small;">, from </span><i style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">re-</i><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: x-small;">‘back’ + </span><i style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">tirer</i><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"> ‘draw’.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white;"><span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">One of my big tasks is to rationalise my papercraft supplies. Many of my Stampin' Up! products are retired: in this case, retired has the meaning of no longer available to purchase! Surely I am not alone in having lots of inks, cardstock and designer papers in beautiful but no longer supported colours? For the sake of sanity in my craft room (and perhaps with echoes of Swedish Death Cleaning) I am planning to craft, focusing on using retired products and completing projects. And I am going to blog about it: there will undoubtably be some giveaways along the way.</span></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white;"><span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="background-color: white;"><span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">This will be a bit of a trip down memory lane, please come along for the ride. I'd love to see what you are creating with your "old" supplies.</span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;"><span style="background-color: white;">The card today uses The Designer Paper Stack Fresh Prints from 2014. The colours (Real Red, Coastal Cabana, Crumb Cake and Whisper White) are all current, now that Coastal Cabana has returned to the fold in the Colour Refresh 2018. I have been experimenting with Fancy Fold cards as they are a great way to use patterned paper (I have such a lot of patterned paper!) I used the <a href="https://thecraftspa.blogspot.com/2017/06/18-crafting-forever-a6-double-z-joy-fold-card-with-tutorial-fresh-floral.html" target="_blank">tutorial</a> from the inspiring Amanda Bates for this: its a Double Z Joy Fold Card. </span></span><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">The stamp set is also retired: Balloon Adventures from 2017. I fussy-cut the balloons as I never bought the punch.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">Oh, and to declutter and give joy to others, part of this campaign is to actually post or deliver the cards I make. This card was hand-delivered to a special friend whose birthday it is today!</span>Queen of Scrapshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03097131215416045541noreply@blogger.com0
